EAST Thurrock’s manager says winning at Cray Wanderers will mean nothing if they fail to beat Met Police tomorrow.
John Coventry watched his side run out 3-1 winners at the already relegated Kent side on Tuesday night thanks to strikes from Sam Higgins either side of a David Bryant strike.
The result took them level on points with Wingate & Finchley, and one place outside the drop zone due to a superior goal difference.
After the match Coventry said his side had showed “belief” and maintained he is confident his side will beat the drop.
“We have got three games left and I can’t afford to smile after this victory as it will all be for nothing if we get beat tomorrow. We will have our feet firmly back on the ground for that one.
“We played very well on Tuesday and took the game to them which is exactly what I wanted to see. “We allowed Cray back into the game midweek and we can’t let that happen tomorrow.”
East Thurrock’s other remaining games are against fellow strugglers Enfield Town on Bank Holiday Monday before facing third placed Bognor Regis Town on the final day of the season.
Coventry made two changes for Tuesday’s game, replacing Connor Witherspoon and Ross Parmenter with Mitchell Gilbey and Neil Richmond, and the Rocks boss says he will freshen his side up again for the weekend’s clash.
“I may make some changes as we are patching up wounded all the time. I freshened it up against Cray and I think it worked well tonight, so I might do it again.
Coventry says he hopes Tuesday’s win will buoy the players for a tricky end of season run-in.
“We should have sorted it out weeks ago.
“I have always been confident but I know there is no such thing as too good to go down. “It has not been easy to watch from the touchline since last May but I will say I am glad I have this bunch of players trying to get out of relegation and not another one.”
