GREAT Wakering Rovers are on course for a league and cup double after beating Takeley on penalties in their Essex Senior League cup semi-final.
Dale Brightly was the hero, saving two penalties in the shoot-out which Wakering won 4-3.
John Bradley had given league leaders Wakering an early advantage at Burroughs Park only for Charlie Simpson to equalise.
But a Billy Johnson header ensured Dan Trenkel’s side were leading 2-1 at the interval.
Rovers held on to that lead until 10 minutes before time when Michael Sacks equalised and sent the game into an extra time period that yielded no goals and took it to a penalty shoot-out where Brightly came up trumps.
Wakering for whom player/boss Dan Trenkel, made his 400th appearance after coming off the bench against Takeley, take on Greenhouse London in the league on Saturday knowing two wins will see them to the title.
They will then face Sporting Bengal United in the league cup final A date and venue for the final has yet to be confirmed.
