SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown believes his side are showing their best form of the season, at just the right time.

Blues, who travel to fourth placed Fleetwood Town tomorrow, have triumphed in five of their last six games.

And Brown has been delighted by their recent displays.

“Apart from the AFC Wimbledon defeat we’ve been in very good form lately and I would say it’s been our best of the season so we want to keep that going,” said the Shrimpers boss.

“I think a lot of it is down to our planning and preparation which means the team are still one of the fittest in the leagues.

“We’re also one of the most organised too and we want it to remain that way tomorrow when we take on Fleetwood because it’s another very big game.”

Fleetwood still have an outside chance of securing automatic promotion while Blues are all but guaranteed a place in the end of season play-offs.

Sixth placed Southend are currently six points ahead of eighth placed Oxford with just two games to go and they also boast a far superior goal difference.

The Shrimpers are 10 goals clear of the U’s but Brown is taking nothing for granted and will be not be resting any players this weekend.

“We have a strong squad here now so if someone gets injured someone else can come in to do a good job so I don’t think we need to rest people,” said Brown.

“We set our stall out against them at our place earlier on in the season when we beat them 2-0 and that’s exactly what we’re going to have to go and do again.”

But Blues again have injury doubts on three of their players – defenders John Egan and Jakub Sokolik, plus winger Kevan Hurst who has a calf problem.

“Kevan is a slight doubt and he had to have an injection after Monday’s game,” revealed Hurst.

“He actually had one at the start of the season and Jakub is also a doubt. He needs to be managed between games at the moment as well as John Egan who is in the same position.

“But hopefully all three will be available by Saturday and we can name an unchanged side.”
