MICHAEL Timlin felt Southend United’s disappointment in drawing 1-1 at Fleetwood Town on Saturday showed the progress the Shrimpers have made this season.

Barry Corr’s firm, first half header secured Blues the point they needed to mathematically make sure of a place in the play-offs.

But Timlin insisted Southend were frustrated not to have won.

“Fleetwood are still going for automatic promotion so this is a good result but we could’ve won and that’s the frustrating thing,” said the midfielder.

“We had a couple of decisions go against us but the fact we’re disappointed with a draw here shows how far we’ve come as a team this season.

“It’s a decent result though and we showed the right attitude to make sure we got the point we needed to make sure of our place in the play-offs.”

If the league table remains the same, then Blues will again be taking on Fleetwood in the end of season play-offs.

But Timlin is only focusing on playing against Burton this weekend.

“We need to think about ourselves and our next game which is Burton,” said the former Swindon Town man.

“It’s a massive game because we want to keep the momentum going and go in to the play-offs unbeaten.”

And Timlin is then desperate to help the Shrimpers get promotion.

“For Southend to move forward as a club with bigger crowds and a new stadium we need to get out of this league,” said Timlin.

“I would also love to do it for the supporters because, although they’ve always been great, I’ve really noticed it this season.

“They were here in great numbers again so we wanted to get what we needed for them and it was another very positive afternoon for us.”
