IT could be that I decide to make one or two changes to the starting line-up for Saturday’s game against Burton.
I’m not doing it to get in to the mind of the opposition manager nor I am doing it to field a weakened team.
The only reason it’s entering my mind is that I think it could well be best for us ahead of the play-offs and we could well benefit from freshening things up a bit.
When you look at the play-offs, I’m not really too worried about who we play.
We have a great record against the top teams this season and the only games we have lost – at home to Scunthorpe and away at Chesterfield – were both undeserved.
We are therefore confident about our chances but I want us to try and make sure we finish fifth.
That’s not because I want us to be at home in the second leg but purely because it’s the highest we can finish.
I also think if we came seventh and went on to win the play-offs one or two people might think we didn’t deserve to go up.
Ben Coker - unfortunate not to win a penalty at Fleetwood
I WENT TO SEE REFEREE AFTER FLEETWOOD
I WENT in to see the referee after the game against Fleetwood Town at the weekend to ask why we didn’t get a penalty when Ben Coker was brought down.
I wasn’t particularly irate about the situation but I did tell him he looked a bit foolish when he turned round to look back at the assistant referee and the fourth official who were much further away from the incident.
The ref, who was tucking into a curry at the time, admitted that their defender had touched Ben but that it wasn’t enough to make him go down.
After that, I was as clear as mud about the incident but he did that if it had happened at the other end and he had given a penalty I would’ve been chewing his ear off and he was probably right!
He also said that he hoped the referee in the play-offs didn’t have to make a decision like that because it would be disastrous.
Phil Brown was angry none of his players made the PFA team of the season
PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR
AFTER expressing my anger at none of our players being voted in the PFA League Two team of the year in the Echo this week I have decided to introduce a new award here.
We will therefore have the players’ player of the year being presented this weekend and it will be interesting to see who is picked.
The voting will be taking place behind closed doors at training today and tomorrow and sometimes these kind of polls bring up a different player to who the fans might pick.
Mark Phillips has now finished his loan spell at Aldershot Town
MARK PHILLIPS UPDATE
MARK Phillips has finished his loan spell at Aldershot Town and he contacted me to ask what was happening.
He said he wanted to go away on holiday and I said that was fine as I have four centre-backs available at the moment.
He’s also contacted our physio Ben Clarkson for treatment as he’s been feeling stiff and unfortunately during my time here Mark has never really been that far away from the treatment table.
But he’s been a fantastic servant for this football club.
Ryan Giggs - now in charge at Manchester United
RYAN GIGGS WON'T HAVE KNOWN ANYTHING LIKE IT
RYAN Giggs took charge of Manchester United for the first time at the weekend and I know he will never have felt anything like he did coming out of the tunnel for the game against Norwich City.
I know Ryan very well and I’m sure he would’ve been worried if he had picked the right team and even if he was wearing the right clothes!
But when it comes to picking the new permanent manager of the club I think the club will pick someone with more experience.
They will want someone with an extensive CV who has bossed in Europe and is used to managing £20 million players.
At the moment, that rules Ryan out but he knows the club inside out and would be a huge help to whoever does come in to replace David Moyes.
