Hullbridge Sports are celebrating their best league finish in a decade after they wrapped up their season with a convincing home victory.

Sports beat London Bari 5-2 at Lower Road on Wednesday night, which saw them leapfrog Clapton FC into ninth position and hit 53 points, their highest ever total.

Goals from Perry Dunn, Dean Wallace, Rob Hodgson, Harry Skinner and Liam Nash ensured a comfortable victory over the Essex Senior League’s bottom side. An injury to Chris Brown soured the occasion slightly but did not mar an otherwise dominating performance.

The club, led by Dan Braney and Mark Bliss, also enjoyed a prolonged run in the FA Vase, reaching the third round for the first time in their history.

Braney said: “It has been quite a season. The players have come on leaps and bounds and we have managed to bring players through from the reserves and youth teams giving them vital experience.

“We are hopeful of keeping the team together next year and building on what has been a very promising campaign. We would have finished higher but three of our games were abandoned when we were winning and we lost all the return fixtures.

“Next year we are looking for a top six finish.”

The club are still in the hunt for silverware this season and take on either Enfield 1893 or Greenhouse London (who played on Thursday tonight) in the quarter-final of the Gordon Brasted Trophy this Saturday, with the winners to face Sawbridgeworth Town.
