SOUTHEND United’s on loan winger Jacob Murphy is a doubt for tomorrow’s clash with Burton Albion at Roots Hall.
The 19-year-old, who is with the Shrimpers from Norwich City until the end of the season, picked up a calf problem in training at the start of the week.
And he has yet to return to action.
“Jacob has a calf injury and we’re not too sure if he will be available or not for the game,” said Blues boss Phil Brown.
“He got the injury in training on Tuesday and he hasn’t been able to get back out there since.
“Whether or not he will be able to join in today I’m not sure but there’s still time for him to throw his hat in the ring so we will have to wait and see.”
If Murphy fails to recover, then Anthony Straker seems set to replace on the left flank after impressing when coming off the bench against Fleetwood Town last weekend.
The winger did well to create a late chance for Barry Corr and Brown is keen for Straker to be handed another opportunity.
“Strakes is in my thinking for the game and I thought he was excellent when he came on at Fleetwood, “ said Brown.
“That’s exactly the reaction we want from our players and we’ve seen it a few times in our last few games now.
“Freddy Eastwood scored after coming on against Torquay, Barry Corr did the same at Cheltenham and that’s what we want to carry on happening.”
Brown is considering making further changes to his team with Luke Prosser, Conor Clifford and Lee Barnard among those in contention to start.
But Brown has yet to finalise his line-up.
“It’s a game of football not cards but you have to decide whether or not you show your full hand at this stage or not,” said the Blues boss.
“There are lots of ifs, buts and maybes but we want to win the game and whoever is picked will be going out there trying to make sure that happens.”
