THE carp anglers have found the varied conditions at Doggetts favourable.
Doggetts bailiff Anthony Gull started the week off well at the Rochford water by landing five good carp to 22lb during a couple of nights on the south bank. But he also lost four more fish.
Ryan Owen’s first trip to Doggetts this year saw him land a 16lb mirror and a 14lb common during a quick overnight session on the road bank. He, too, lost a bigger fish.
Local angler Ian Simmons had an evening’s fishing on the long arm, where he found Eclipse boilies more productive than his usual floaters in the margins. He caught two scrappy mid-doubles and lost another one.
Craig Sexton and Chris Cassidy fished a night on the long arm. Sexton had six good tench plus 16lb and 17lb mirrors, while Cassidy banked two mirrors to 17lb.
Brothers Michael and John Ling arrived from Hadleigh with only pellets as bait but soon discovered how much bream love trout pellets as they started landing fish after fish.
A free sample packet of eight boilies was found in the bottom of a tackle box which managed to produce a 13lb mirror for John and a 23lb specimen for Michael.
Ed McIntosh enjoyed his session on the short arm where he caught three very pretty mid-doubles. The low pressure seemed to agree with Doggetts as most anglers enjoyed some good fishing.
Roach, tench and bream were quite prolific with bread caster and luncheon meat still proving to be the best baits.
To find the best tench the float fishermen should not ignore the shady corners under the trees, while the best bream often prefer the open waters with a maggot feeder fished over gravel providing the heavier bags.
David Lime landed seven nice tench to 6lb, plus some great roach on float-fished bread and trout pellet paste from the road bank.
Andy Mills, meanwhile, bagged a good 60lb of bream from the south bank.
