Shrimpers skipper Kevin Maher got his wish tonight as his Southend side were confirmed as Tottenham Hotspur's opponents in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Spurs defeated Cardiff City 4-0 in their third round replay at White Hart Lane this evening thanks to goals from Aaron Lennon, Robbie Keane, Steed Malbranque and substitute Jermain Defoe came off the bench to score Spurs' fourth after a blocked shot.
Maher told the Echo today that he hoped Blues would get another crack at Martin Jol's Premiership side after Southend lost out to the north London club in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup last month.
Defoe's goal in extra-time knocked Steve Tilson's troops out of the Carling Cup and now Maher will be leading the Championship side out at White Hart Lane again on Saturday, January 27.
Maher started his career with Tottenham before joining Southend in 1998.
