CANVEY’S teenage sensation Jessica Judd will tomorrow night be racing in the 800m final of the Commonwealth Games.

The 19-year-old produced a performance beyond her years to win her semi-final in teeming rain Glasgow.

She will now be dreaming of winning a medal in tomorrow night’s final that will take place at 8.45pm.

Judd took her semi-final by the scruff of the neck after 300m, leading the field through the bell in 60.76s and showing her strength to stay there all the way to the finish.

She crossed the line in 2m 2.26s which was more than a second slower than the winner of the first heat and favourite Eunice Sum of Kenya who clocked 2m 1.38s.

But Judd will have gained enormous confidence from her run and the way the crowd roared her on.

The moment she crossed the line her thoughts turned towards tonight as she was whisked away quickly for a warm down and a return to the athlete’s village.

Joining Judd in tonight’s final are her Home Nations rivals Lynsey Sharp and Jennifer Meadows who both qualified as fastest losers from the second heat.

Behind the favourite Sum, the race for the medals will be wide open with Judd standing every chance of a medal.

The race will be screened live on BBC1.
