WITH Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games now over, we asked our reporter RYAN GOAD who was in Scotland for the Games for his top five moments.
JESSICA JUDD: You are meant to stay impartial in the press box as a journalist but I was jumping up and down and screaming for Jess in her 800m final. She came so close to winning a medal and was distraught afterwards which was hard to see. But her time will come, her amazing semi-final victory proved that.
MAX WHITLOCK: I was only in the Hydro for one of Max’s medal-winning routines, his final one which was the bronze medal in the parallel bars. But by that point he had already been confirmed as England’s most decorated Commonwealth gymnast, not that you would have guessed that from talking to him. A truly humble, unassuming champion.
HAYLEY McLEAN: OK, so things didn’t pan out for Hayley as she wanted them to as the 19-year-old was disqualified in her 400m hurdles heat. But to see one of the nicest sports people you are likely to meet competing on that stage was very special. Like Jess, her time will come.
THE HAMPDEN ROAR: The atmosphere in Hampden Park was like nothing I have ever experienced and “thrilling Thursday” as it has been dubbed was one of the most electifying nights of sport I have ever witnessed. The television coverage simply did not do it justice.
RUNNING ON THE TRACK: It’s not often you get to run on a Commonwealth Games track, so when I was asked if I would be running the media mile I couldn’t say no...even if it meant running in jeans, shirt and glasses! The track at Hampden is being pulled down as we speak so my claim to fame from now on will be that only Jess Judd, Hayley McLean and me from south Essex got to race on that amazing track!
