Southend's hopes of making the last 16 of the FA Cup were dashed by Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.
A narrow 1-0 defeat in the Carling Cup quarter-finals last month had given the Shrimpers hope that they could overcome their Premiership hosts at White Hart Lane.
Martin Jol made eight changes to his Tottenham line-up but they comfortably secured a place in the fifth round.
Robbie Keane put the hosts ahead after 12 minutes, scoring from 18 yards following a pass from the right by Jermaine Jenas.
Aaron Lennon then crossed from the left wing for Jenas to slot home from six yards to put Spurs in control.
It remained 2-0 until Freddy Eastwood gave the Shrimpers fresh hope in the 69th minutes.
Hossam Ghaly handballed inside the penalty area and referee Rob Styles pointed to the spot.
Eastwood stepped up and put the ball into the bottom right of Radek Cerny's goal.
But any hopes of an equaliser were put to the sword in the 76th minute when Ahmed Mido scored what proved to the winning goal from close range following Lennon's centre from the right.
