THE change in weather has seen a change in the type of fish being caught at Rochford Reservoir.

The low pressure has brought the bream on the feed and seen carp feeding more on the bottom rather than the top.

Pole and float anglers, meanwhile, have been catching good size bream and roach. Steve Holder fished a late morning session on the road bank using pellet and paste.

He managed to land five good bream to 4lb 6oz before the carp moved in to take any bait that was on offer. By the end of the session, he had banked 11 carp to 10lb for a estimated weight of 90+lb.

Another pole angler who has been among the fish is Dave Benjamin who fished a late morning session on the house bank using meat or pellet fished hard on the bottom.

He managed to land eight bream to 5lb carp to 9lb and rudd and roach to 1lb 4oz. Local angler Chris Warby popped down for short session on the top bank using float fished sweet corn and was surprised to hook into a 5lb tench.

Joss Dyos with his golden orffe

Fourteen-year-old Jess Dyos fished under the willows on the Freight House bank and landed his first ever golden orffe which tipped the scales at 2lb 6oz. He also had a mirror carp of 5lb.

Carp anglers are still having success. Sean Thacker fished a day session roaming around the lake, taking 13 carp to 14lb 13oz mainly on pellet. For more information, on Rochford Reservoir call Nick North on 07963 112588 or visit www.markshallfisheries.co.uk

ANGLERS CONTENT WITH WET WEATHER AND SEALS

Southend: The wet weather has kept anglers away from the pier and beaches.

Thamesmead: Eddie Sharp reports lots of seals which means sport is as dead as a dodo. Eddie also went to Dover’s Prince of Wales and caught pin whiting, dabs, mackerel and one weaver, although most were undersize.

Charlton: The seals are appearing this far up the river, but when they are not there, anglers are catching flounders and eels.

Erith: Big flounders have been had on blow lug at Morrison’s Jetty.

Greenhithe: Whiting, bass and eels have been caught.

Stanford le Hope: Whiting and flounders have provided sport.

Sheerness: Dave Keys and Tony Banks had codling to 2lb, lots of whiting and the occasional flounder on blow lug and blueys.

Rivers Crouch and Roach: Too much freshwater has left sport patchy, with only the occasional flounder or whiting being caught.

Bradwell: Whiting, bass and a few sizeable codling have been landed at Holywell Point, with lots of mullet showing at Bradwell Waterside, although only a few are taking the bait.

Wrabness: Whiting and bass to 3lb.

Felixstowe: Bags of codling from 1.5lb-plus, whiting and roker are being caught in the deep water at Landguard Point.

Walton Pier: Richard Holgate reports codling, bass, pouting, dogfish and a small lobster.

Holland on Sea: One angler had a bird’s nest and after sorting the tangle out reeled in two 2lb bass.

Boats: Skippers of most Essex boats report codling, whiting, pouting, dogfish, bass, roker and smooth-hounds.

LAINDON SCHOOLBOY LANDS TOP CARP

LAINDON schoolboy Joshuah Sparks, nine,  had a surprise last week when he landed a decent carp at TJ’s lake at Wickford.

Echo:

JOSHUAH SPARKS WITH HIS CATCH

The schoolboy from Lee Chapel Primary School was fishing with his grandfather, Cyril Boosey, when he bagged 10 fish on his telescopic rod.

But the catch of the day was  a 10lb common carp – caught on pellets – the biggest fish the angling-mad youngster has ever caught.
