FISHING an overnight session with Cel boilies from the short arm, James Saunders landed his new personal best from Doggetts this week.

A fantastic 26lb mirror picked up James’ bait in open water – putting up a great fight which lasted nearly 20 minutes.

Saunders was delighted with his catch and he then went on to land another mirror which tipped the scales at 14lbs.

Pike fishing has produced a few jacks at Doggetts this week with fish being landed on lures and float fished on dead baits.

The general float fishing has noticeably slowed, although bream and roach can be found from most parts although maggots are essential as hook bait.

SEA REPORT

THERE has been a very unusual catch off Southend pier this past week with one angler landing a squid which is not something you hear very often at all.

Other species caught off the pier according to Rory Coase from Southend Angling Centre include bass to 3.5lb, mullet, whiting and dogfish, but it is the squid that has been the real talking point this week.
