HORRENDOUS rain forced Joe Hierons to scrap plans for a night session on the south bank at Doggetts but he did manage to fish a two-hour spell and was rewarded with a scrappy 16lb mirror.

Overall, the lake has responded well to the strong south westerly winds, but by the weekend the carp seemed to find the continual night time barrage of fireworks too disruptive and little was caught during Saturday and Sunday.

Ian Simmons found Eclipse Virus worked for him when he fished an evening on the south bank where he landed a fine upper double mirror.

Echo:

Reeled in – Ian Simmons with his fine upper double mirror

James Saunders, meanwhile, managed to lose a fish and bank a low double before the fishing slowed at the weekend while fishing his favourite swim on the north bank.

A quick overnight session saw local angler Alan Slade fish the south bank with a new pineapple bait which obviously worked as he landed two mirrors both weighing in at 17lb.

But the happiest angler this week was Lee Crawford who has watched others land fish while he struggled.

Finally Crawford found his form when fishing the south bank for a night during a south westerly gale.

Fishing the middle bar and the back reeds, Crawford landed commons of 12lb, 15lb and 17lb.

A few jack pike were also caught this week with the largest of the young fish landed being just 9lbs.
