SOUTHEND Swifts under-16 girls side triumphed 58-52 at Haringey Angels in South One Conference.
Swifts led 28-23 at half-time and 42-32 heading into the final quarter where they were able to hang on to their advantage.

But Swifts’ under-14 boys were less successful in the East Conference of the National League, losing 89-47 to East Herts Royals.
Swifts cut Royals’ lead to 43-33 at half-time having previously trailed 30-13.
However, Swifts failed to impress in the third quarter and allowed Royals to go 63-37 in front at the end of the third quarter. That all but secured the victory and Swifts therefore decided to finish the game by giving some of their less inexperienced players a game.
Thomas Sowoolu top scored with 12 points.
Swifts’ under-18 side were also heavily beaten, losing 86-59 against Haringey Hawks.
This was despite scoring the first nine points of the game and leading 26-19 at the end of the first quarter. But Hawks hit back in the second period to lead 42-33 at half-time and a 13 point run in the third quarter extended Hawks’ lead to 65-44.
The final quarter included eight unanswered points for Hawks as they took the win.
Paul Jeboda scored 18 points for Swifts while Josh Powell and Jamie Matthews both added 14.
Swifts’ under-14 girls were more successful though and enjoyed their own thumping win, thrashing Brentwood Fire 100-26 in South One Conference.
Swifts were 18-8 in front at the end of the first quarter and dominated the second period to lead 53-18 at half-time.
That became 85-22 at the end of the third before a more subdued last quarter saw the scoring slow down.
Katie Bennett top scored for Swifts with 25 points while Charlotte Redhead bagged 24 and Georgia Powell 19.
Swifts’ under-15 boys were also celebrating, but their game was far closer as they edged out Thurrock Hornets 37-35.
Thurrock led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter before Swifts turned things around in the second quarter as they went 22-19 in front and then were able to scrape a win. Matt Kerridge top scored with 17 points.
