I’M absolutely delighted that the transfer window has now closed and that Daniel Bentley remains at the football club.

The speculation surrounding his future has been distracting for everyone but throughout it all Daniel has been a credit to himself and the game of football.

You only have to look at what’s gone on in football in last week or so with David De Gea not playing for Manchester United and Saido Berahino now threatening to go on strike at West Bromwich Albion after they didn’t sell him to Tottenham Hotspur to see what disgraceful things can happen.

But I’ve never experienced anything like that during my career and I’m glad I haven’t either because I wouldn’t want that kind of career at the football club, no matter how good they were.

In complete contrast to all of that, Daniel has been a shining example of how footballers should conduct themselves in this type of situation.

I was always confident he would stay but, at the same time, money does talk, so I wasn’t 100 per cent sure.

However, the chairman rejected the offers that came in for Daniel and I’m really happy that he did.

Daniel showed during Monday night’s game at Coventry just how good he is and just how important he is to the team as well so him staying has been music to my ears.

SEASON'S UP AND RUNNING

I FEEL as though we’ve got our season up and running following the positive result and performance at Coventry City earlier on in the week.

The proof of the pudding will ultimately be when we take to the field again this weekend for the game against Peterborough United which is being shown live on Sky Sports.

But we can go into that full of confidence because the first 45 minutes at the Ricoh Arena was the best we have played by far this season.

We worked hard, we closed them down when they had the ball and we also created some excellent chances.

We put two of them away but, having watched the game back on the DVD, there were also another three gilt-edged opportunities we wasted before the break.

We had to dig in a bit more in the second-half but we have two home games in a row coming up now and it’s an opportunity for us to get points on board.

QUIET TIME ON DEADLINE DAY

TRANSFER deadline day was quite quiet for us.

We had done most of the business we wanted to do earlier on in the week with Glen Rea, Stephen McLaughlin and Luke O’Neill all coming in.

I had been hoping to bring in a striker and it was something we looked at but, at the same time, David Mooney and Noel Hunt were both very impressive at Coventry.

They both managed to get their first goals for the club which will boost their confidence and I’m sure they will be looking to build on that now.

Hopefully they can get a good partnership going and if they do then we won’t need to bring in another striker at all.

Joe Pigott and Myles Weston are putting them under pressure for a start so we’ve got plenty of options in attack and Jason Williams is also pushing to be involved after scoring a hat-trick for the under-21s at Gillingham yesterday.

But if we do still feel we need a striker then we can always bring one in on loan.
