SOUTHEND’S Matt Southgate is ‘over the moon’ to have made his first ever US Open.
Southgate will be heading to the Shinnecock Hills Golf Course in Long Island after impressing in sectional qualifying at Walton Heath.
And the 29-year-old cannot wait to get underway.
“I’m over the moon to have made the US Open,” said Southgate.
“It’s really exciting but I need to treat it like any other event when I’m out there.
“When I’m retired I can look back and think it was really cool I did that.
“But for now I just have to be focused on the event and committing 100 per cent to every single shot. I want to get four good scores.”
The Open gets underway on Thursday June 14.
