BILLERICAY Town will make changes ahead of tonight’s FA Cup replay against Taunton Town, according to manager Dean Brennan.
The Town chief named debutants Ethan Stewart and Joe Coveney in his starting line-up in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at the AGP Arena, along with teenager Ade Shokunbi.
Jamie O’Hara, Dean Inman and Ricky Modeste replaced the trio in the second half and, while he was pleased with the performance, Brennan admits he will be making changes as both teams battle for the right to visit Chesterfield in the first round.
“Saturday’s performance was the strongest since I arrived,” he said. “We sent in 45 crosses, had 26 attempts but only eight were on target. We had at least 10 good chances and they had four, including the penalty, but we have to give credit to the opposition. They scored at good times.
“We dominated after that and went 4-2-4 but we are frustrated with the goals we conceded and I will tweak team selection. We need experience in games like this.
“I am really looking forward to the game and the rewards are huge. We want to be playing teams like Chesterfield. I have played against them and that is a League One club with a fantastic stadium.”
Billericay travelled to Somerset yesterday and are training at Weston-super-Mare’s ground ahead of the match at the Viridor Stadium.
Brennan is pleased his team will have time to bond and says he will be looking to get the better of Taunton, who defeated him at this stage in an FA Cup replay in 2016 when he was Hemel Hempstead manager.
He said: “We have the chance to prepare in the right way and we will need a bit of luck too.
“We need more bodies in the box in attacking situations and we need to shut the back door.
“Taunton is a tough place to go. It will be hostile, the changing rooms are small and there will be a bumper crowd of more than 1,000.
“I lost to them two years ago and I don’t know how. We had two goals disallowed in the first game and they got a replay and even though we battered them over two games they got through.
“I hope the fans travel in numbers and help us through.”
