GREAT Wakering Rovers are capable of matching any team in the Isthmian North after they upset Aveley to progress in the Essex Senior Cup.
That is the opinion of Wakering manager Garry Kimble, who orchestrated a 4-3 victory against their league rivals in the cup on Tuesday - one of the favourites for promotion this term.
A brace from Adam Vyse plus strikes from Marcus Bowers and Jake Gordon were enough to send Wakering into the fourth round of the county cup.
Wakering have excelled at home this season, winning six and losing just one game at Burroughs Park. They have also won more matches already this term than in the entirety of 2016/17 - their last season at this level.
And Kimble said his team need to maintain their levels of belief heading into the Christmas run-in.
“We can match these sides,” said Kimble, who was appointed manager in July. “We are an in form side and we haven’t lost at home in the league and that is testament to the players.
“We are learning that, on our day, we can match anyone and I actually think the players don’t realise how good they are.
“The supporters realise that and on Tuesday night everyone was so pleased. Winning is a good habit and we are playing with confidence.
“Now we are in this position we need to maintain it and ensure we don’t fall on our faces. We are taking the games steadily.
“We know if we beat Barking on Saturday we can go as high as fourth in the league which would be incredible,” he added.
“The more points we can get before Christmas the better. We are on course to reach our target at the moment and as soon as we get to 38 points we can think about the next target.”
Wakering were hugely impressive against the Millers.
And Kimble has called on his team to build on their excellent form after the result.
“From the off we were great,” he said. “We conceded sloppy goals but we came back against a very strong team.
“I mixed it up and we went 4-4-2 and it paid off. It was one of the best 90 minutes we have played.”
