DEAN Brennan believes Torquay United will prove to be one of Billericay Town’s biggest challengers for the National League South title this season.

Town will make the trip to Plainmoor for an exciting encounter tomorrow.

And Brennan, whose side came from two goals behind to beat East Thurrock United and climb back to the top of the standings in midweek, believes Torquay are a club that should still be in the Football League.

“These are the games you want to be involved in,” said the Billericay boss.

“Whether we are playing East Thurrock or Torquay, we always look forward to the games.

“But we are top of the tree at the moment and that’s where I’m sure Torquay want to be and will be aiming to get to come the end of the season.

“It was a real test of character for us against East Thurrock and we got through it, but we need to keep our feet on the ground because we know you cannot afford to go two goals down against Torquay and expect to come back and get something out of the game.

“We’ve got to make sure that we stick to the gameplan.

“They are really a League Two football club and they have a League Two manager in Gary Johnson, while they also have the best pitch in the division as well.

“We know it’s going to be quite an intimidating place for us to go to, but it’s a brilliant challenge for us and I have no doubt that we will take a good amount of supporters there ourselves.”

Brennan has been hampered by injury problems in recent weeks, but the National League South table-toppers - who are three points clear of second-placed Welling United - have been boosted by the news that the likes of Jake Robinson and Scott Doe are expected to be available for the trip to Plainmoor.

And Brennan is pleased to have selection headaches.

“We will play the team that we feel can win the game,” added Brennan.

“Scott Doe and Jake Robinson are back and Alfie Potter got 60 minutes against East Thurrock.

“Ricky Modeste is still out and we have had a hectic schedule.

“All of the top clubs want two players for every position and we want to have selection headaches.

“Moses Emmanuel has been playing well and Coombesy (Adam Coombes) scored two goals in midweek.

“We have Ross Lafayette and Jake Robinson as well and we want to get as many forwards on the pitch as possible.”
