BILLERICAY Town booked their place in the fourth round of the Essex Senior Cup by sealing a 2-1 win over Concord Rangers at the AGP Arena.
Jake Robinson marked his return from injury by getting on the scoresheet, but the in-form Liam Nash levelled matters for Concord on the stroke of half-time.
However, the Essex Senior Cup holders were not to be denied victory as Adam Coombes grabbed the winner.
The hosts went ahead with the first meaningful attack of the evening.
A fine team move culminated in Robinson getting ahead of his marker and firing home from close range.
Alfie Potter should have doubled the lead moments later as Robinson won the ball high up the pitch and played in the winger, but Potter’s effort went wide of the target.
Coombes also passed up a golden opportunity to get his name on the scoresheet as his diving header was directed over the crossbar from close range.
And those misses proved costly as Nash fired into the top corner to draw Concord level one minute before the break.
There was still time for Billericay to come close to going in at the break ahead as Robinson’s curling effort – which looked destined for the bottom corner – was brilliantly tipped aside by Beach Boys goalkeeper Josh Glover.
Callum Kennedy came within a whisker of restoring Town’s lead as the left-back’s sweetly struck free-kick clattered the post less than two minutes after the interval.
Concord skipper Tyrone Sterling nearly spectacularly diverted an Aron Pollock header into the back of the net, but the central defender’s flick went just over the crossbar.
Glover had to be quick off his line to thwart substitute Ross Lafayette following a flowing Billericay move.
But Billericay were to move back in front as Coombes headed home with 70 minutes on the clock.
Kennedy then sent a free-kick crashing against the crossbar as Billericay looked to make the game safe.
But the hosts had done enough to progress and the Essex Senior Cup holders will be involved in the fourth round of the competition.
