FREDDY Eastwood has seen his loan spell with Canvey Island come to an end due to paperwork issues.
The Gulls had been looking to extend the youngster’s loan move from Southend United.
Despite the Shrimpers also being keen for Eastwood to remain with the Isthmian North club, a paperwork issue has resulted in the attacking midfielder returning to Roots Hall.
Canvey boss Mark Bentley said: “We have lost Freddy because of a problem with the paperwork.
“We were looking to extend his loan and Southend were also happy for him to stay with us, but we were told by the Isthmian North that we were missing a piece of paperwork that was needed in order for Freddy to stay with us.
“It’s a shame because he was settling in very well and had impressed me on the pitch.
“We’re still looking to sort out the paperwork issue and bring Freddy back because that is what all parties want, but it might take a bit of time.
“However, the relationship between us and Southend seems strong and that is a big positive for us going forward.”
Canvey, who are 11th in the Isthmian North standings, will welcome Aveley to Park Lane tomorrow.
The Millers are just four points adrift of table-topping Maldon & Tiptree.
And, while Eastwood is unlikely to have sealed his return to the Gulls prior to the weekend, Bentley has been boosted by the news of Sam Bantick being available and Zack Littlejohn returning to the club.
“Banno couldn’t play last week because he was at a wedding which I knew about before we signed him,” added Bentley.
“He should be back in the squad this week but we got a good win against Felixstowe & Walton United, so there is competition for places and he won’t necessarily go straight back into the starting line-up.
“Zack went to university in September but he was keen to remain in and around the squad when it was possible.
“He goes to university in Bath and plays for their team.
“They train three times a week, so he is probably fitter now than when he was originally with us.”
