STEVE Butterworth has moved quickly to sign Sam Carter after seeing Great Wakering Rovers captain Adalberto Pinto depart.
Work commitments have resulted in Pinto having to move abroad and, as a result, his time at Burroughs Park has come to an end.
However, player-manager Butterworth has already found a replacement ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Dereham Town.
“Pinto has left the club because of work commitments and that is a blow,” said Butterworth.
“He was our captain and had played really well since joining us, but he had no option but to end his time with us.
“Because of that, I have signed Sam from Tilbury and he is a ready-made replacement.
“He is a similar midfielder and I’m really pleased to have brought him in.”
Butterworth admits he will be looking for revenge when Wakering, who are in the Isthmian North play-off places, head to 10th-placed Dereham this weekend.
Wakering suffered a harrowing 6-1 defeat at Dereham in the final fixture of last season, just days after Butterworth was appointed player-manager on a permanent basis.
And Butterworth is seeking retribution this time around.
“It was the last game of the season and, admittedly, we went there with the wrong mindset,” added Butterworth.
“I had just got the job and everyone was on a high but then we ended up getting a pasting.
“That didn’t look good in my first game in charge.
“But we are a hell of a lot different now and we will be going there confident of getting all three points this weekend.”
