TERRELL Egbri says it was a dream come true to score the first senior goal of his career in Southend United’s 3-1 victory against Bristol Rovers.
The 18-year-old winger scored Blues’ second goal of the game as he fired home a fine cross from Eren Kinali.
And Egbri - who came through the youth ranks at Roots Hall - was still full of smiles at the final whistle.
“It was an unbelievable feeling and it’s one I’ve dreamt about for so long,” said Egbri.
“I’m speechless right now to be honest but it meant so much to me and it’s a dream come true really.
“Unfortunately, my mum and my little brother couldn’t be here but that goal was for them.
“Everything my mum did for me when I was younger right up until now as well, that was for her.”
Egbri has now started six games in succession for the Shrimpers.
And the youngster is relishing his extended run in the first team.
“I’m enjoying it so much and I’m learning every single day from the manager and all of the players,” said Egbri.
“I learn in every game too but I’d played five games before this and had obviously been wanting to score.
“But it’s an unreal feeling and it would be great to get more now.”
However, Egbri’s goal was not a complete surprise to everyone.
“In the morning when I was in digs, my digs lady was saying she had a feeling I was going to score so it’s weird but I’m so happy,” said Egbri.
“Eren set me up but normally in our under-23 training sessions or in the games as well it’s the other way round.
“We have a good partnership but I couldn’t believe I scored.”
Egbri had earlier seen his deflected cross bounce back off the crossbar.
But the youngster was not to be denied and he was quick to praise coach Craig Fagan for his part in the goal.
“That goal was from Craig Fagan, the under-23s manager,” said Egbri.
“He’s been telling me I have to be like Raheem Sterling coming in at the back post and that’s what I did.”
And Egbri also benefited from working closely with manager Sol Campbell in the build up to the game.
“It’s really helped me and this week he’s really focused on me,” said Egbri.
“The last couple of games I haven’t really got the ball that much so he’s been analysing my own individual performance. I think it’s really helped and hopefully now we can get more points.”
