JACK Giddens has confirmed his departure from East Thurrock United.
The goalkeeper joined Rocks in the summer of 2018 from Billericay Town.
But, following the news that John Coventry has surely managed Isthmian Premier League side East Thurrock for the final time due to the coronavirus outbreak throwing the remainder of the campaign into doubt, Giddens has confirmed his time at the Grayers Graphics Stadium has come to an end.
Having read Echosport’s exclusive story on Coventry revealing he did not expect to be in charge of Rocks again, Giddens tweeted: “After reading a report online regarding the future of East Thurrock United, my time at the club is up.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute and want to thank the gaffer, the management staff and every single one of the fans over the two seasons spent at East Thurrock.
“It’s been a pleasure to represent the club 86 times, with many great memories, but most of all I’ll miss the shouts of Giddo from the side!
“I wish the club all the best for the future and I’m looking forward to goaltending again soon, once all this global disaster ends.”
Despite Giddens’ heroics between the sticks during his first campaign at the club, Rocks suffered relegation from the Isthmian Premier League.
However, the shot-stopper played a key part as East Thurrock celebrated their 50th anniversary by picking up silverware.
Giddens – who won the Isthmian Premier League title, Essex Senior Cup and Isthmian League Cup treble during his final season at Billericay – shone as Rocks clinched the Essex Senior Cup for the first time in their history thanks to a stunning 3-1 triumph over National League South outfit Chelmsford City in the final held at Colchester United’s Jobserve Community Stadium 11 months ago.
The shot-stopper leaves the Grayers Graphics Stadium with East Thurrock sitting 11th in the Isthmian Premier League standings.
Giddens made a total of 86 appearances for Rocks.
