SOUTHEND United defender Shaun Hobson will forget all about his admiration for Paul Scholes when the Shrimpers visit Salford City tonight.
Scholes remains in temporary charge of Salford for this evening’s League Two clash.
But Hobson, who supports Manchester United, will not be looking beyond the pitch.
“He’s a legend and he’s dear to me as a United fan but football is football so on Tuesday I won’t really care, I just want to win,” said Hobson.
“Paul Scholes is Paul Scholes and we’re Southend and we want to win.
“Of course you respect what he’s done for United but we’ve got a job to do and so has he.
“We need to be at our best because it’s a big game for us.”
And it is one Hobson is also certain Blues can win, despite being bottom of the table.
“I know we can beat Salford and any team in the League if we put our minds to it,” said the centre-back.
“We should have won last week and it was a last minute goal by a play-off team which stopped us.
“It’s there and it’s coming but we just need to be consistent with it.
“We need to stay on it and not get too down about it.
“We need to go again Tuesday.”
And it is a game where will also be taking place close to home for the Manchester born Hobson.
“It’s 10 minutes from where I grew up,” said the 22-year-old.
“The last time I was there was with Eastleigh in the Conference play-offs and it was disappointing but we will need to impose ourselves on the game."
