SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley feels Rob Howard fully deserved his first team debut.
The 21-year-old, who came through the Blues' youth system, played the final 22 minutes of the Shrimpers' 1-1 draw at Mansfield Town on Saturday.
And Molesley was delighted to be able to hand Howard his first senior appearance.
"Rob fully deserves his debut," said Molesley.
"He’s been fantastic ever since we came through the door.
"His attitude and application in training has been first class.
"He’s had to wait patiently but with the restrictions lifted that enables me to call on players like Rob.
"He really deserved that today and I’m really pleased for him."
