BILLERICAY Town fell to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Eastbourne Borough last night, reports Leon Imber.
It was an encouraging first half for Kevin Watson’s side, who went into the break 2-1 up thanks to strikes from Toyosi Olusanya and Rowan Liburd.
However, a second half capitulation saw Town concede three goals in the space of 10 minutes - with ex Billericay winger Chris Whelpdale scoring twice - to condemn them to their third match without a victory.
Defensive issues remain the problem for Watson’s side who have conceded nine goals in their last three matches.
If Billericay are to steer clear of relegation worry, leaking goals is the issue they wiat Eastll need to iron out.
However, at the other end of the pitch, the signs are encouraging and the returning Liburd has made a big impact since his arrival.
The 28 year old has scored four goals in his three matches since rejoining the Essex side.
Since the restart of the National League South, Town have fielded a youthful side and thus prolific striker Jake Robinson has been without game time.
But if he is to be reintroduced, a partnership with Liburd in attack will certainly produce goals and could shift Billericay’s fortunes.
Town remain 15th in the league table, four points from a relegation spot but they have played more games than all other teams below them.
