SOUTHEND United fans have their say on the news Phil Brown is set to return for a second spell as the Shrimpers manager.

Short term, which we need, it may just work. New managers normally have an initial impact to results. If we win the next two games everyone will be over the moon. If we don't win them we would probably be no worse off then with MM. It may just be a stroke of genius or a nightmare.

@PJDW3

Whilst I can understand the decision on some levels, I don’t understand why if a change was going to happen it didn’t happen sooner, like with Barrow getting rid of Jolley. Does seem a bit harsh though.

@jacobwoods97

However much MM struggled, and he did, he has never had an even playing field due to the circus above him and he didn’t deserve this. It’s a desperate attempt to stay up which may not end well even if that does indeed happen in my opinion. Certainly didn’t last time. Despondent.

@piershewitt

If we stay up some will say it’s a master stroke by Ron. Personally think it shows how badly the club is being run leaving this decision so late in the season. And what of next? Do we go back to the way it was when Brown was first in charge? Ex top flight players on inflated wages?

@1970jaya

Pleased but just the timing. MM should’ve gone weeks ago. Was never his biggest fan but it’s been down hill since Brown left and shows really how good we had it them five years under him, can’t believe I said that but the grass ain’t always greener.

@nikitheshrimper

I like MM, without the transfer embargo I think it would be different. However, we are almost out the league, 0-0’s will not save us, we need to try something different. I appreciate Brown divides opinion, but I like him, he knows the club, there is nothing to lose surely?

@thedove01

I hate this with every fibre of my being. He was one of the key figures responsible for putting us into this mess. Thought we had a long term appointment in MM. We can't keep making the same mistakes appointing a new manager every few months.This is a true low point for Southend.

@documartin

Very happy with it needed a experience manager in from the start personally but just wish it was done a good month or two earlier.

@Callum63787699

I’m not enthused. This looks like another knee jerk reaction from the chairman. Molesley is not to blame for this season, it’s the man who held back the funds until the stadium looked like a goer. Hope Brown can make things happen, but he won’t be here next season if he doesnt.

@SamjCarey

Tough on Molesley but right job at the wrong time for him. To have us even on the brink of safety is a success given how the off field antics are going but this change should’ve been made at least five games ago. Some of those draws would have been three points. More optimistic now.

@kevinlowe12345

The timing is surreal and ludicrous. Probably too late, too. Should have made the change one month ago. As for Brown, he was successful before. It’s not a terrible appointment IF we can survive. Huge if, though. Surely too little time to save us now. And poor Mark, this is all Ron’s fault.

@lesleymatt

If he was gonna replace MM it should’ve been months ago and it should be for a manager who is a scrapper and will grind out results. Browns squads didn’t score goals with half decent strikers in them!! Ridiculous appointment and timing.

@CC_2201

A light at the end of the tunnel, a very very dim one though.

@DanBasildonBlue

Buzzing

@BowendjDan

Wish were at the Hall so we could let him know how much we want him back. Never wanted him to go.

@ang_the_pang

I think it’s good. Bit too late in my opinion but it’s good that he has League experience and hopefully his tactics and formation choice is different because I feel like Molesley didn’t have the right ones. Hopefully he doesn’t play Halford and Dieng upfront.

@BradleyW0218

Disgusted

@CMRandall92

I understand the decision, it’s been downhill ever since he was sacked and I welcome him back with open arms.

@harrybr89737483

Timing is very bizarre. Limited amount of games left for him to do anything meaningful and is he really going to stick around if we go down? If it was going to happen which we all thought it wouldn’t given Ron continuously saying MM is staying regardless, it needed to be earlier.

@ElliottPattison

Very happy just a shame it’s five games too late.

@elmomartin9

Never really liked him but if he can keep us up then he goes down in Southend history as a hero. Can't see him getting the goals we need out of the current strike force though and he didn't exactly hit the ground running when he first took over last time.

@Pete_Chatterton

Sympathy for taking the hardest job in English football but MM has to go, he’s just not up to the job. Definitely should have been done sooner! Better late than never in this case, let’s hope we can pull another survival miracle again.

@ScotsShrimper

Can understand the decision, but one that should’ve been made at least five games sooner. Huge fan of MM and think it’s incredibly harsh but just the wrong job at the wrong time. Not a fan of PB but do feel he has the experience to turn our form around.

@benhumphrey_04

Whatever peoples' perceptions may be, Phil Brown has a number of promotions and relative successes on his CV. Like him, loathe him or indifferent, he may have the experience and mentality we need right now.

@Ice_Speedway

My head is swimming. Completely off the rocker barmy, but might be barmy enough to work? Nothing left to lose right? My worry would now be if it doesn't work, what does the summer look like? But for the first time in months I see a chink of hope in the gloom.
