ENGLAND begin their quest for Euro 2020 glory tomorrow.
The Three Lions face Croatia in their opening group game at Wembley.
And boss Gareth Southgate will have a trio of ex Southend United players in his backroom team.
CHRIS POWELL Powell remains one of the best players in Blues’ history having made 290 appearances for the club at left-back during the 1990s.
Powell went on to play in the Premier League and also won five caps for England.
The 51-year-old went into management after hanging up his boots and returned to Roots Hall to take charge of the Shrimpers in January 2018.
Powell started brightly as boss as helped move Blues clear of the relegation zone but he was dismissed in March 2019 after a poor run of results.
Powell now coaches at Tottenham Hotspur and has also coached England, alongside his former Crystal Palace team-mate Southgate, since September 2019.
MARTYN MARGETSON Margetson made 38 appearances between the sticks for the Shrimpers during the 1998/99 season when Alvin Martin was in charge.
The 49-year-old went on to play for Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City before moving into coaching where he has really excelled.
As a result, Margetson has been England’s goalkeeping coach since August 2016, having previously been part of Wales’ backroom team.
Margetson is also goalkeeper coach at Swansea City where he works alongside another ex Shrimper Mike Marsh who is assistant manager at the Swans.
GRAEME JONES Jones scored three goals in 26 games for the Shrimpers in the 2002/03 season after being signed by then manager Rob Newman.
The former striker returned to Scotland before retiring and he has gone on to enjoy a number of high-profile coaching roles.
He has been part of the backroom team at Swansea, Wigan and Everton before becoming assistant coach of Belgium’s national team.
A spell as manager of Luton followed before he was named as a coach at Bournemouth.
However, Jones joined Newcastle United’s backroom team last season and has been added to the England set up for the duration of Euro 2020.
