KEVIN Maher insists he will never consider his Southend United side as underdogs during his spell in charge.
Blues travel to seventh placed Notts County this weekend.
But Maher feels the Shrimpers are more than capable of getting a good result despite sitting just about the relegation zone on goal difference.
“A club like us should never be going to places feeling like underdogs and that will never be the case while I’m here,” said Maher.
“But we have to understand where we are and where they are in the league.
“Having the right game plan to get a result is going to be important.”
The Magpies have been beaten just once at home so far this season but Maher is looking forward to the challenge.
“It’s a good opportunity for us,” said the Blues boss.
“We’re going against a really good club with good players and a good fanbase.
“They play good football and it will certainly be a test for us but after getting four points in our last two games hopefully we’re going there with some confidence.
“We need to express ourselves in the right way and we had a good away result last time out so we’re looking for something similar on Saturday.”
