ON this day in 2009, Southend United drew 1-1 at Chelsea.Here's what the starting line-up from that memorable afternoon at Stamford Bridge are now all up to.

STEVE MILDENHALL: Mildenhall memorably made a brilliant save to stop Franco Di Santo scoring late on at Stamford Bridge. He is now goalkeeping coach at Swindon Town.

OSEI SANKOFA: The former defender now works for the Premier League, focusing on coach development. 

PETER CLARKE: The defender scored the late leveller on his birthday and turns 40 today. Remarkably he is still playing in League Two for Tranmere Rovers and has now made 855 career appearances.

ADAM BARRETT: The popular former Blues centre-back has been coaching at Millwall since 2017. He is now assistant manager at the Lions.

JOHNNY HERD: The left-back delivered the long throw which led to Peter Clarke’s late equaliser. He now runs his own business called ‘JH School of Sport’. He delivers PE clubs and holiday clubs in South Cambridgeshire. He also plays for Peterborough Sports.

ANTHONY GRANT: The midfielder, now 34, plays for Swindon Town in League Two. He also made his debut for Jamaica last September.

JEAN-FRANCOIS CHRISTOPHE: The Frenchman now combines playing for US Vimy with working for Audi.

ALAN MCCORMACK: The midfielder was back with Blues last season but is now concentrating on the start of his coaching career. McCormack is now assistant manager at Heybridge Swifts where Steve Tilson is in charge. He also works in at the academy at Luton Town.

JUNIOR STANISLAS: The winger lined up for Blues while on loan from West Ham. He went on to make 140 appearances in the Premier League and now plays for Bournemouth in the Championship.

ALEX REVELL: Revell went into management after finishing his playing career but was relieved of his duties at Stevenage in November.

LEE BARNARD: The ex striker now works in property development.

SIMON FRANCIS: The defender went on to make 324 appearances for Bournemouth, 136 of which came in the Premier League. He is now assistant technical director at the Cherries. 

FRANCK MOUSSA: The former midfielder was forced to retire at the age of 30 due a to knee injury. He now works for NatWest bank in Kent.

KEVIN BETSY: Betsy is now head coach of Arsenal’s under 23 side.

STUART O’KEEFE: The midfielder has been with Gillingham since 2019.

IAN JOYCE: The ex Blues goalkeeper is now heavily involved in Real Estate investment. He also coaches with the US Soccer Federation and has worked with the under 17 and under 20 women’s teams since 2015, working at two youth World Cups.

DOUGIE FREEDMAN: The former striker is now sporting director at Crystal Palace.

FRANCIS LAURENT: The Frenchman now works as a football agent.

STEVE TILSON: Tilson is now in charge of Isthmian North side Heybridge Swifts and runs the football academy at South Essex College in Southend.
