SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher felt his side were the ones pushing for all three points during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Solihull Moors.
The Shrimpers were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after Moors midfielder Callum Maycock cancelled out Sam Dalby’s opener.
But Maher was pleased with Blues’ performance.
“We were the ones pushing to win and we could’ve won it too,” said the Southend boss.
“We had a couple of good chances just after half-time and if one of those goes in we might be picking up three points.
“Credit to the players, they did ever so well and on another day we might have gone on and won.
“It wasn’t to be but we take a point and move on.”
The draw made it 11 matches unbeaten for Blues.
But Maher – who was forced into making three of the four changes to his starting line-up – was initially concerned during the opening exchanges.
“When we started off, they hit the bar and Will (Atkinson) got booked you’re thinking here we go with three big players missing for us,” said Maher.
“But you to give credit to the ones who came in and hopefully that shows the depth of our squad.
“We’ve improved and we got a great goal but we’ve just switched off for moment.
“They’re dangerous on the counter attack and they looked to flood bodies forward when they took it off us but I’m pleased with the performances.
“There were two very good teams going at it.”
And Maher was also pleased with how Blues reacted to being pegged back.
“If you go 1-0 at half-time it’s a big boost but even though we had a setback we didn’t let it affect us,” said the Shrimpers chief.
“We played our football again on what was a bobbly pitch at times.”
