LEON Davies made the most of his return to Blues’ starting line-up - despite lining up on an unfamiliar flank.
Davies, who replaced the injured Tom Clifford at left-wing back, created Sam Dalby’s goal with an inswinging cross.
And the 22-year-old enjoyed his new role.
“I play right wing-back normally and have always played on the right hand side so it was a bit different for me but I found I could get crosses into the box easier than on the right and it was very enjoyable,” said Davies.
“At first I thought I had put the cross for the goal too close to the goalkeeper but Dalbs got to it and I was pleased to get an assist.”
The Shrimpers eventually had to settle for a share of the spoils against the play-off chasing visitors.
But Davies was keen to point towards the positives as Blues made it 11 matches without defeat.
“We had the opportunities to get the three points but we defended well and we keep the unbeaten run going,” said Davies.
“We have to take the positives from the game.
Solihull are a very good team but I thought we did well. It was a tough start but we grew into it and it’s a good point.”
However, Davies is now keen to remain involved.
“There’s a lot of competition for places so when you do go in there you’ve got to do everything you can to keep your place,” said the defender.
“We’ll see what happens but roll on next week.”
The Shrimpers head to second placed Chesterfield on Saturday.
