BILLERICAY Town have been relegated from National League South.
A 2-1 defeat to Ebbsfleet United at New Lodge combined with Welling’s 3-2 win against Maidstone United means Billericay will be in the Isthmian Premier League next season.
And interim boss Dan Brown – who took temporary control following Jody Brown’s sacking in mid-April - could not hide his disappointment at the final whistle.
“We knew it was a throw of the dice and we weren’t in a good place,” said Brown.
“The players gave me their all. As tired as I am I’ve enjoyed it but I’m just gutted for them.
“If we could have pulled this off everyone could have reset and started again.”
But Brown feels improvements have already been made which will help the club moving forwards.
“There are things we’ve put in place now that will make the job a lot easier for the next manager,” said Brown.
“We’ve got the GPS, we’ve got the data, analyst and we’ve really brought the club up to a good professional level in a short period of time.
“Whoever takes it hopefully we can build a pathway and get things going.
“I just hope we can get it right as a football club and move forward.”
