FORMER Southend United defender John White has joined Braintree Town.

White’s nine year spell with the Shrimpers finished at the end of last season.

But the experienced centre-back will be staying in Essex after signing for the Iron.

White tweeted: “I’m so excited for this fresh challenge.”

White joined Blues in 2013 after leaving Colchester United and went on to make 288 appearances while at Roots Hall.

However, the 35-year-old is now teaming up with Braintree who finished 17th in National League South last season.
