SOUTHEND United have completed the signing of midfielder Wes Fonguck from Barnet.
The 25-year-old has signed a two year deal at the Shrimpers, with an option of a third.
And Blues boss Kevin Maher is delighted to have made Fonguck his sixth signing of the summer.
"He’s someone who can link the midfield to the attack," said Maher.
"He’s comfortable on the ball, moves well and can travel with the ball so I think he will provide something different to the midfield area.
"He’s someone we’ve known about for a long time, we watched him a lot and kept an eye on his situation and when the opportunity came about we moved quickly to get the deal done."
Fonguck joined Barnet from Crystal Palace as a second year scholar and went on to make 139 appearances for the Bees, scoring 14 goals.
And Maher feels the midfielder's experience will be of benefit to Blues.
"He’s played a lot of games and he’s at an age where we think he can get better," said Maher.
"He has good energy and adds a good dynamic to the middle of the pitch which will provide good competition for places.”
Fonguck looks set to make his first appearance in a Southend shirt in tonight's pre-season friendly at Colchester United.
