CREWE Alexandra manager Steve Holland took full responsibility for his side's poor display against the Shrimpers on Saturday.
The Railwaymen lost 3-1 after seeing two penalties saved by Southend United goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan.
"It is my job to prepare the team for the game and I haven't done that properly," Holland confessed.
"I take responsibility for what happened and it's my fault. I was more pleased with the second half but the start we made was unacceptable and that's what cost us in the end."
Holland also refused to blame Gary Roberts or Kenny Lunt for missing penalties which could have secured Crewe a valuable point.
"I don't think they were poorly and neither of them was a poor penalty to be honest," he said.
"The goalkeeper just made two very good saves and he deserves credit for that."
