SOUTHEND United captain Adam Barrett fired his side to a crucial 2-0 win over Brighton at Roots Hall last night and believes Blues need just three more points to make sure of a place in the play-offs.
The centre back brilliantly lashed home a 20-yard shot just six minutes after Mark Gower had given the home side the lead.
That was enough to move the Shrimpers upto fourth in the League One standings and Barrett is convinced one more win will be enough to secure a top six finish.
"We're nine points clear of seventh place now so it's looking good," said the defender.
"One more win from our last four games will be enough to get in the play-offs and we want to get it as quickly as we can.
"This was a massive win and we're 11 undefeated now which is excellent form just at the right time of the season."
Barrett was also delighted at scoring his seventh goal of the season after he impressively crashed home a flick from his fellow centre back Peter Clarke on the edge of the area.
"You could say I was a bit pleased with that one," he said.
"I hadn't got a goal for a while so it's great to score again and that's one I will be boring the rest of the lads with for at least the next two years - make no mistake about that."
Barrett was just as pleased with another clean sheet at the back and Blues boss Steve Tilson was also full of smiles.
"It was a good result and that is all that matters at this stage," said the former Southend midfielder.
"Our first half performance was what won us the game and they were to great finishes. We've lost one game in 15 now which is really pleasing but I don't think we were really at our best.
"The performance wasn't as good as in our last two games but we got the right result. That keeps us in an excellent position and we want to keep it going now.
"The momentum is right behind us, we're playing ever so well and the confidence couldn't be any higher.
"It's great to see and now we want to get another win against Northampton here on Saturday."
