CANVEY Island soccer boss John Batch is adamant that victory in two of their last three games will definitely see his side through to the end of season play-offs.

Following Tuesday's great 2-0 win at second-placed AFC Sudbury, which put the Park Lane outfit back in the mix, Batch insisted: "I said at the start of the season that 75 points would be enough for the play-offs and I've no reason to change that.

"If we could win all three remaining games we'd definitely be there as we'd have 79 points and, with teams up there playing each other, it would be mathematically impossible for us not to make it."

Gulls should undoubtedly win their remaining two homes games, although tomorrow's visit from second-from-bottom Wivenhoe Town is fraught with danger as the north Essex team are battling relegation.

What made Tuesday's success all the more praiseworthy was the fact that it was achieved without one of Canvey's most experienced players, Kevin Dobson, who was out through injury.

Andrew West switched to central defence alongside Coilin Wall with George Blewer coming in to partner skipper Craig Davidson at full-back.

Tomorrow Dobinson and midfielder Clydie Roberts face late fitness tests and Ryan Edgar will not be risked as he's only back today from attending his grandmother's funeral in St Lucia.

Said Batch: "With all the injury problems we've had to overcome, the players have done a fantastic job in keeping us involved in the play-offs.

"On one recent Saturday we had 10 players missing. But we're still very much involved and no-one will fight harder than us to make the play-offs now."
