MILLIE Smith is beginning to mark out a useful athletics career.
She first came to the spotlight with victory in the first-ever Essex Primary Schools Cross-Country Championships, where Echosport featured her victory.
That report brought Millie to the attention of Rayleigh's FitzWimarc School who invited her to attend their gifted and talented sports programme where she impressed with her ability and stamina.
From cross-country to the track, Millie soon made the switch and was first past the post quite convincingly in dismal weather conditions at the pre-season Chelmsford Open.
And back at her home Gloucester Park track at the Basildon AC Open she crossed the line first in the under-11 600 metres with a time of 2 mins. 03.3s.
