LAKESIDE suffered their second Elite League defeat in two nights when they went down 53-40 at Swindon on Thursday night as the Robins exacted revenge for their defeat last Friday at the Arena-Essex Raceway.
Adam Shields held the visitors together with 13 points from five rides although that included a winning tactical ride in heat seven.
Pick of the bunch for the home side was Mads Korneliussen who only dropped one point to an opponent whilst Leigh Adams weighed in with a paid four-ride maximum and Troy Batchelor returned a paid fourteen points .
Lakeside were soon six points down but a 5-1 from Jonas Davidsson and Ricky Kling brought the visitors to life although that was to prove Davidsson's only success. Two Swindon maximum heat wins followed to leave the visitors trailing 23-13 and team manager Jon Cook immediately summoned up Shields for double points.
The Australian responded superbly teaming up with Joonas Kylmakorpi for an 8-1 win over Travis McGowan and Cory Gathercole before Leigh Lanham gained a fine win in a shared heat 8 to boost the Hammers victory hopes.
Davidsson touched the tapes in heat 9 and was penalised 15 metres, a fate too far as he failed to make any impression on Korneliussen and Batchelor before the home side extended their lead to 9 points thanks to a 4-2 from Adams and James Wright over Shields.
Guest Davey Watt and Lanham then collected a splendid 5-1 to put the visitors back in the picture with only a five points deficit but the Robins eased their own concerns with two maximum heat wins guaranteeing the match points.
With the home side holding a 47-34 lead, Kling and Kylmakorpi shared the points behind Korneliussen in the penultimate race whilst Shields prevailed in heat 15 although partner Kylmakorpi could make little impression and finished out of the reckoning.
