CONCORD Rangers are hoping that either Romford or Bowers and Pitsea can do them a favour to keep alive their hopes of landing the Essex Senior League title and promotion to Ryman One North.
After the latest round of matches, which saw Enfield 1893 beat fellow challengers Barkingside 3-1 away on Saturday, the former will win the crown if they beat Romford tomorrow and Bowers on Wednesday week, both at home.
After losing at Enfield on Tuesday, Concord's hopes were given a lift on Thursday when Enfield were held to a 2-2 draw by visitors Eton Manor, the Tilbury based side having led 2-0 at one stage.
Concord were made to fight surprisingly hard on Saturday before beating bottom club London APSA 1-0 away thanks to a 35th minute goal from leading striker Danny Heale.
Heale is three clear of Enfield's Sherwin Stanley with 36 goals in his bid to retain the Don Douglas Trophy awarded to the league's top marksman.
If Enfield are beaten in either of their last two games, Canvey's Concord could take the championship by winning all their four remaining matches - starting with Hullbridge at home tomorrow.
On Saturday Hullbridge went down 2-0 at Eton Manor with Byron Nelson getting his eye in with both goals.
Concord's hopes that Bowers can do them a favour next week are boosted by the fact that the Crown Avenue outfit are in good form.
They followed Wednesday's 2-1 win over local rivals Basildon United at the Len Salmon Stadium - Jordan Tolan scoring twice - with a 1-0 success at Burnham Ramblers on Saturday.
Scorer here after 11 minutes was Chris Lewis.
Second from bottom Basildon picked up only their third win of the season on Saturday when they saw off Clapton 3-0 at Gardiners Close.
Jason Cox, who netted at Bowers, was again among the scorers along with Paul Talbot (penalty) and Grant Allen.
Southend Manor are another side ending the season with a flourish.
They won 2-1 over Beaumont in a match played at London APSA's ground on Thursday, courtesy of Martin Stanley and Craig Davies, and thumped Sawbridgeworth 4-0 at Southchurch Park on Saturday. Mark Sissons (2), Martin Stanton-Hope and Ben Hudson got the goals.
Manor, battling for a top six final placing, host APSA tomorrow in their penultimate game. Marin's penalty accounted for Aveley based Mauritius Sports and Pennant's 1-0 win at Stansted.
Other results: Barking 2, Beaumont Athletic 2.
