SOUTHEND Swifts' three girls teams have their biggest weekend of the season approaching with the final fours taking place at RAF Cosford.
For the second year running, Southend have their under-18, 16 and 14 teams competing at what is the biggest basketball event in the country.
After six months of league competition, the top four teams at each age group meet to decide who can proclaim themselves as national champions.
All three Swifts' sides know they will have to be at their best if they are to bring silverware back home with them to Essex.
On Saturday, the under-18s and 14s are in action - the older group against south division champions and cup winners Haringey Angels and the youngsters playing Eastside Eagles.
Both will be looking to reach their respective finals played on the same day.
On Sunday it is the turn of the under-16s who meet Manchester Mystics.
Swifts' chairman Paul May said: "We are extremely proud of the achievements of our three girls' teams.
"Our players are all hugely dedicated and fully deserve their appearance at the huge RAF-sponsored event.
"Although they are very excited about the weekend, I have seen a tremendous focus from all of them at their training sessions since the quarter finals and I am sure this will augur well for the finals.
"The under-18s and 14s are probably considered underdogs in their events, but I am sure this will just spur them on even more.
"The under 16s, however, would be considered favourites having won their division as well as the national cup, but I am certain there will be no complacency from any of them."
While the girls are in national action, there is further international recognition for one of Swifts' boys.
Joe Hart has again been selected for the England under-16 team despite still being 14 years of age.
Hart will take part in a tournament in Austria in May. As well as the host country, England will also meet the Swiss and Dutch national sides in the three day event.
To further strengthen Hart's chances of making the team for the European Championships in August, he has been selected as captain for the games.
May said: "This is a most fantastic achievement by Joe, especially considering his age.
"It is a tremendous honour for him to captain the team and we all extend our congratulations to him."
