A SUPERB 22lb 12oz common carp put a smile on 14-year-old Liam Huntingford's face when he fished the Northlands Park cafe lake.
Not only was the big carp the latest in a succession of quality fish taken by the teenager, it also gave him his best fight ever.
Huntingford fished the Basildon venue's cafe lake, where he presented a Mainline pop up boilie in open water.
He opened his account at the lake by landing a decent tench, and just minutes later the big carp picked up his bait.
A terrific battle followed which saw the fish ripping line from his reel as it powered up and down the lake before Huntingford managed to get it into the net at the first attempt. No sooner had he cast out again but he hooked and landed another big tench.
Trevor Webster chose the Northlands Park road lake to try out his new homemade boilies for the first time, and ended his session with a cracking 22lb 6oz mirror carp.
Webster set up halfway along the road bank where he fished a double boilie bait over a bed of free offerings.
The first two runs of his session produced a tench and a big bream, with the new personal best mirror carp completing the trio later in the morning.
First-time visitor Mick Cannon took a 20lb 12oz common carp when he fished the Northlands Park cafe lake. The big carp fell to a shelf life Mainline boilie presented a yard short of the big reed bed.
Quivertip angler Roy Benham netted an estimated 40lb haul from the road lake. Fishing pellet and red worm cocktails over a bed of groundbait he tempted 13 bream to a best of 4lb 12oz, adding a tench and an eel for good measure.
