LAKESIDE Hammers team manager Jon Cook reckons his team are on the right track following their 49-41 victory over Wolverhampton.
Hammers produced a magnificent performance in the second half of the match at Monmore on Monday night to secure their first Elite League win of the season.
The Essex side overturned a six-point deficit at one stage as the Wolves looked set to maintain their unbeaten home record.
But the Lakeside win means that they are now third in the table, just two points adrift of early leaders Swindon.
"I felt all throughout the meeting that if we could get in front, then we could successfully defend any advantage," Cook declared.
"This is a fantastic night and a result for us and the three points take us towards the top of the table which is where we want to be.
"I think everyone can see that we are gradually getting things together as a team and I believe that we have the potential to build on this victory and achieve well this season.
"We will have Joonas Kylmakorpi down at reserve next month and he could be a huge influence on results from that position."
Lakeside were two points behind Wolves after nine heats but then took the initiative by recordin four heat advantages in the next five races.
The revival started through some ill-fortune for the Midland side when Freddie Lindgren was comfortably leading heat 10 after swooping past his opponents.
But his machine began to suffer problems and that allowed Joonas Kylmakorpi and Adam Shields to take the 5-1 and put their side ahead 29-31.
Andreas Jonsson then hit form after a lacklustre start to the match by holding off home heat leader David Howe with Ricky Kling in third to extend the advantage to four points before heat 12 was shared.
Howe made the gate in heat 13 but the Hammers worked hard to assume control as Jonsson raced around the outside to grab the lead, while Jonas Davidsson took the inside line to move into second place for a 5-1 and a 35-43 scoreline.
Needing just two points to clinch the win, the Hammers achieved the victory in style as the revitalised Kylmakorpi claimed his second win of the night, while effective reserve Kling headed off Nicolai Klindt for the runners-up position.
Although Niels-Kristian Iversen completed a five-ride maximum in the final heat to fashion a consolation 5-1 over Kylmakorpi and Shields for the Black Country outfit, it failed to dampen the spirits of Hammers team manager Jon Cook.
