IT has been a hectic week at Garon Park Golf Club. Midweek saw the seniors play Gosfield Lakes in their Essex Championship and triumph 7.5-3.5 with fine performances.
Saturday saw the club host Woolston Manor in the Jubilee Cup and they won again with a 7-2 victory.
The same day also saw the Masters Multiplier take place. This is a pairs event where the Stableford scores of each player are multiplied together to produce their total for each hole.
Traditionally this event has produced some high scores. Unfortunately the weather contributed to a reduced field and lower than expected scoring. Club captain Bob Meen and his partner Richard Bowen won with 59 points, beating Tom Wells and Jed Beardsall on 53.
The first major competition after the opening of the summer tees, the Professionals' Trophy, took place on Sunday.
A healthy field assembled for this event with prizes kindly donated by the club pros.
The early morning mist soon gave way and the competition began on time with Mark Day (15) setting the early pace with a score of 86 net 71.
He was pushed back into third place, however, after Meen (7) returned a 77 net 70 to finish second behind Tom Wells (6) who was the only player under par for the day. He carded a very good 75 net 69.
