SOUTHEND-BASED Team Viper, sponsored by RLF and Browning Cycles, had 16 of their 28 members in action at the Rayleigh Aquathlon at Sweyne Park.

Viper had a good day and received three awards overall.

Peter Hawkings came third with a time of 24mins. 39 secs out of 90 competitors.

Lara Nyman was the first junior with 26:10 and Hockley's Mark Williams was the first veteran with a time of 27:50.

This was Williams's first aquathlon and his fifth race in multisport so far.

He joined Team Viper a year ago and during this time has won the club championship.

The Sweyne Park race was a very good result for Williams, who was also made to complete two more lengths than required of the swim!

"As I was made to swim two extra lengths I felt I really had to give it my all on the run to make up this time. This obviously paid off," he said.

Other Viper members to race were : Howard Clarke (5th overall), Cara Purvis (4th junior), Charmaine Wheeler (2nd senior woman), Nathan Smoothy, Ben Langley, Steve Henigan, Grace Brown, Rachel Shute, Bethany Hawkings, Kat Ewin, Brian Ewin and Rob Frith, who came 12th in the 13/14 year age group.
