NO Southend United players have been named in the Professional Footballers' Association League One team of the season.

The awards ceremony took place in London this evening and was attended by a whole host of Shrimpers players, including the club's PFA representative Adam Barrett.

But the Blues captain believes the timing of the votes went against his team-mates.

"We had to vote about five or six weeks ago and at that stage of the season we were only just starting what proved to be a really long unbeaten run," said Barrett.

"If you did the votes now it could be different. I actually think the voting is done too early but I guess it takes a while for them to be counted and everything so I understand why they do it."

The main award of the night, the PFA Player of the Year, nt to Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo for the second year running, while Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas picked up the Young Player of the Year award.

There was also joy for former Grays Athletic striker Aaron McLean as the now Peterborough United frontman was named in the League Two team of the year.
